Sometimes when you least expect it, need it, or want it, an opportunity comes along you just can't say no to. Since becoming a teacher, it has been my hope to teach abroad at some point in my career. I've looked into it off and on over the years but timing and situation was never right. Also, most teaching abroad assignments come with a one or two year contract, and truth be told, I've never been in a position where I could commit to that length. So when I received an email about a school looking for a teacher for a 3 week summer camp program in South Korea, I thought twice about the opportunity. It wasn't an easy decision. I had a job that I liked, Jacob was just getting home from another trip, and the weather in Colorado was finally perfect for running, hiking, biking, camping...basically all things I love to do. None the less it just felt like I didn't know when this opportunity would come about. So all within less than a week, I bought a plane ticket, packed my bags and quit my job. On Friday, I picked up Jacob from the airport and 10 hours later he was taking me back. I cried a little, kissed that beautiful bearded man and took the leap to Asia.
The Journey There...
Anxiously waiting in Denver, still crying over kissing that beautiful bearded man goodbye.
When in Canada... Every time I looked up the aisle, a stewardess was bringing more food and free drinks! So different from not even getting peanuts on flights in the states. By the way that was Adaline I was watching and I was balling.
Flying in to Vancouver. I met the most wonderful couple on the flight. The man may have lectured me about the bible stating we should not mark our bodies - but he also said I was a pretty girl and it's that boys fault if he doesn't snatch me up soon.
Anxiously waiting again...
A short layover in Canada - but long enough to be reminded how beautiful it is.
After the 10 hour flight (with 2 hours of sleep) flying into Seoul
It's always a good feeling when you see all your luggage!
Since the moment I committed to this trip I was wondering if this would happen. I was not disappointed!
The drive from the airport to Seoul.
It's been grey since the day I got here, but there is a mix of city and vegetation.
Found where I'll be on the weekends!
BCC provided me an apartment only a few blocks away from the school! They supplied me with a new bed, bedding and some house-hold necessities. Thank you BCC!
